Day 1 - Cairns to Atherton Tablelands

Let’s do this!  We head straight towards the tablelands, taking in some of the most awe-inspiring sights such as Barron Falls along the way.  We’ll have options to swim at some off-the-beaten-path waterfalls or go to one of the local coffee plantations if you need your caffeine and chocolate fix, as well as going to a quiet spot where you can feed some endangered wallabies in the wild.

There’s plenty of stops along the way for lunch, including great little aussie pubs where you can enjoy a hearty counter meal.

For the afternoon there’s a choice of; a self-guided & challenging 11km (return) hike to a breathtaking waterfall, relaxing by a pristine volcanic lake, mountain bike hire-and-ride on acclaimed Atherton trails or visiting the historic tin mining settlement town of Herbeton (with a unique spy museum and delicious home-made scones from the local cafe!).

Our private rainforest camp-site is also a working farm.  So when it’s feeding time, you can help with the goats, sheep, cattle, buffalo, chickens, ducks & dogs!  There are also extensive rainforest trails to explore on the property, home to the elusive tree kangaroo among other native wildlife.  As the day winds down, we’ll get the fire going and prepare our camp dinner, helped along with some friendly banter.  In the lush surrounds of our private camp-site, find your favourite spot and set up your swag for a great night’s sleep.

Estimated Travel time: Approx. 3-4hrs driving

Day 2 - Atherton Tablelands to Cairns

…have you heard of those funky platypus creatures?  Would you like to see one in the wild?!  We’ll wake up early, take you to them and teach you how to spot ’em!  Nearby we can check out a natural symbiotic phenomenon at the stunning curtain fig tree.

We’ll soak in the beauty of our camp-site one last time at breakfast before packing up and getting back on the road.  If horsepower is your idea of a good day on the trails:  horseback trail-riding is available at Tait’s Wongabel Stables right next door to our camp-site property!

Everyone gets some water time in the pristine Far North Queensland tropics today!  Massive gorges with expansive views that remind you of nature’s power…  Some of the best-known swimming holes such as Millaa Falls and Josephine Falls with its natural rock water-slides (and a few less-frequented ones!)…  Rainforest trails…  Quirky architecture coupled with natural beauty at Paronella Park…

There’s a bunch of stop-off destinations for lunch and  stunning scenery to take in along the road today!  True roadtrip spirit!

You’ll be returned to Cairns in the evening full of stories and refreshed from your adventurous time spent in nature!

Estimated Travel time: Approx. 3-4hrs driving
